When you first arrive

When you first arrive at the school we will help you with:
 

Bank Accounts

When you are studying full time at the Leeds English Language School, we will help you to open a bank account at Lloyds TSB bank. Directions The staff know our school and will help you to open a bank account. You can also speak to David at HSBC bank in the city centre. David will help you to open your bank account. Just tell him you are from Leeds English School.

You will need:
  • Your passport
  • A letter from the School to show your address in your country and your address in Leeds 

Student Services Officers

Student Cards

For a student card you will need:
  • A passport photograph
  • A letter from the school to show you are a full time student
  • A £9 fee

Go to STA Travel in the City Centre.

Police Registration

When you arrive in the UK, if you are from one of the following countries, you will need to register with the police:
 
Afghanistan, Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Palestine, Peru, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Yemen.

If you are not sure, ask our welfare staff. We will help you to register with the police. You will need:

You should register within seven days of arrival in Leeds. The Police will keep your passport for a few weeks so make sure that you don’t need your passport during this time (for opening a bank account or signing a contract for a flat).

This office is open between 9:00am-1:00pm and 2:15pm-4:00pm Monday – Thursday.

Directions.

You will need to take:
  • Your completed police registration form (available from the office)
  • 1 passport size photograph
  • Your passport
  • The administration fee of £34.00

You must report any of the following changes to the department above within seven working days or you risk a fine of up to £5000 and/or face 6 months in prison.

  • If you change your address
  • If you change college, school or occupation
  • If your marital status changes
  • If your landing conditions change
  • If you are granted a new extension of stay by the Home Office
  • If you are issued with a new passport
  • If there is the birth of a child
     

Student Travel Cards for Bus and Train

If you are a student you can get a student travel card for cheaper travel in Leeds. You can get this from the METRO office at the bus station in Leeds City Centre.

Student Plus MetroCard

What is Student Plus MetroCard?
It's a travel card, providing unlimited bus and train travel throughout West Yorkshire at any time of day or night (except Nightrider and special services).
  • Available to anyone under 22 years of age
  • Also available to mature students 22 years and over in full-time education (16 hours or more per week)
  • Weekly or monthly cards.

How much does it cost?
Student Plus MetroCard costs £17 per week or £62.50 per month.

Where to buy
Student Plus MetroCards are on sale at Metro Travel Centres, staffed bus and rail stations, Post Offices and many campus-based outlets.

The first time you buy a Student Plus MetroCard you will need:

  • The completed Student Plus MetroCard application form.
  • A passport-size photograph of yourself.
  • A Student Plus PhotoCard (which you buy with your first card)
  • Anyone up to age of 22 must provide proof of age - birth certificate, passport, etc
  • If you are over 22 years old you need a letter from the school (see Carol)

There is no residency qualification for Student Plus MetroCard.

Scholar's PhotoCard

What is a Scholar's PhotoCard?
It's a card for 16 to 18-year-old students in full-time education, allowing them to:

  • claim half-price bus and train travel
  • claim half-price rail season tickets
  • buy a School Plus MetroCard
  • travel anywhere in West Yokshire at any time of day, including evenings and weekends (except NightRider and special services)

How much does it cost?
There is a £2 administration fee when you get your PhotoCard.

How to get your PhotoCard
You will need to apply in person, and bring the following with you:

  • The completed application form. We will supply the application form, which wee need to stamp and date for you
  • Proof that you live in West Yorkshire, such as a bank statement
  • A recent full-face passport size photograph
  • Proof of identity and age, such as your birth certificate or passport
  • £2 administration fee

Where can I get one from?
Metro Travel Centres, Metro Bus Stations or any Post Ofice in West Yorkshire.

 

Mobile Telephone SIM cards

The nearest shop to the school is the Carphone Warehouse
